Radom Thoughts on Reincarnation

Talking about Buddhism here in class. Imagining ancient monks having debate whether eating eggs are considered as killing. You think people can reincarnate into vegetables? If people can be reincarnated into fruit and vegetables, I'd like to be a tomato. Most people like tomatoes, and there are many kinds of tomatoes. You'd be able to use me on a bunch of things: with fries, in your sandwich, in your pasta... And, I'd be the center of attention while everyone debates about whether or not I'm a fruit or vegetable. Also, I wouldn't be some boring vegetable like spinach, where I'd just lie there. I'd be able to roll around. How fun.

Anyway, this is just getting silly, so I'm going to stop.

Now I know why the BELGIAN is FAT

The Fat Belgian (European)

115 John St.
Tel: 416-596-0000
http://www.thefatbelgian.com/

When looking for a movie-dinner, this is a good alternative to the Queen St. joints or the pubs on John Street. A fusion between chic and typical pub, The Fat Belgian gives a warming welcome to its patrons. Raspberry duck is slightly fatter and greasier than expected. The combination of raspberry and red wine does not take away the taste of the duck. Dried cranberries and butter creates a harmony in the side risotto. Fat Belgian Moules arrives in sizable and tasty portions that is well worth the money. Dessert menu, however, fails to spark interest. Service is fast and friendly. Has a moderate Belgian beer selection.

GREEN ONION welcomes both madams and gentlemen

Green Onion (Pan Asian)

112 Dundas St. W
Tel: 416-599-8308

DO NOT underestimate this small food joint on busy Dundas Street. A friendly atmosphere, fast service and large portions attract Bay Street white collars and Ryerson students alike. Lunch menu is extensive with a few veggie and spicy options. Curry pad thai is always a favorite and satay chicken is lightly spiced. Servers speak moderate English, and owner is funny and approachable. A good choice for quick and big lunch. Expect to wait after 12:30 pm.

ROLLING POT does not hit the spot

Rolling Pot 滾鍋

7077 Kennedy Road (within Market Village)
Tel: 905-946-0888

This restaurant is one popularly talked about in the Chinese circle has it is one of the first to bring the Taiwanese hot-potting style to Toronto. However, sanitary is clearly an issue with this restaurant. Tables are not cleaned with leafs and oil stain still left from previous patrons. Floor is slippery due to inadequate ventilation for steam and grease. Create-own-sauce is exciting but regularly ingredients are not refilled. Dessert station only serves sesame balls. Drinks and utensils have to self-served. Service varies with waiters, but the majority speaks only Mandarin. Place becomes packed, noisy and rushed the later it gets.

Atmosphere: 0 / 5
Service 1 / 5
Food: 2 / 5

Price:
Dinner $13.99/person for regular dining
$15.99/person for dining with seafood platter (wasn't that much of a seafood platter)

Plus 10% gratuities

Overall: 1 / 5

The LEGEND Continues

Legend Chinese Restaurant

5 Glen Cameron Rd.
Tel: 905-882-6272

Very few people are aware that Legends has come under new management. Same lists of food and tray service (not carts), but new waiters and waitresses. Food is typical with slight innovative attempts in the veggie rice noodle rolls. New shaomi creation misses the mark completely. Bean curd rolls are crispy but typical. Legend continues doing what it does best: being average.

Atmosphere: 2/5
Service: 2/5
Food: 1 / 5
Price: No idea, the other party paid

Overall: 1.8/5
Visit Again: Due to the lack of dim sum places around here... *sigh* Eventually
